Supplement and Nutraceutical Packaging in India: Bottles, Jars, Sachets and Labels
How to package gummies, capsules, tablets and protein powders for Indian retail and e-commerce — barrier, tamper evidence and FSSAI labelling.
Supplements sit between food and health products, so buyers expect both shelf appeal and the reassurance of a sealed, clearly labelled pack. In India, health supplements and nutraceuticals are regulated by FSSAI under its nutraceutical regulations.
Match the pack to the format
- →Gummies: wide-mouth PET jars or zipper pouches; gummies stick together in humidity, so a desiccant and tight seal help.
- →Capsules and tablets: HDPE bottles with induction-sealed caps; amber glass for light-sensitive actives.
- →Powders: HDPE or PET jars with scoops, or flat-bottom zipper pouches for refills.
- →Effervescent tablets: moisture-tight tubes — any moisture starts the reaction.
- →Trials and sampling: sachets and stick packs.
Non-negotiables
- →Tamper evidence — induction seals, shrink bands or breakable caps.
- →Moisture protection appropriate to the climate where the product is sold and stored.
- →Child-resistant closures where the product calls for them.
- →Label space for ingredients, dosage, warnings and regulatory text.
Labelling basics
- 1Product name and category as permitted by FSSAI.
- 2FSSAI licence numbers, net quantity, batch, manufacturing and best-before dates.
- 3Recommended usage, serving size and any required advisory statements.
- 4Claims only as permitted by the regulations.
