Packaging Machines for Small Businesses in India: What to Buy First
Which sealer, filler or coder to buy first, what each costs, and when to move from manual to semi-automatic packing.
Most brands start by hand-filling and sealing packs. The first machine to buy is the one that removes your current bottleneck — usually sealing, then filling, then batch coding.
A sensible order of purchase
- 1A sealer: a hand impulse sealer for low volume, then a continuous band sealer when you pack hundreds of pouches a day.
- 2A batch coder: handheld or online coders print batch, manufacturing and expiry details that labels would otherwise carry.
- 3A filler: weigh or volumetric fillers for powders, pastes or liquids once hand-filling becomes slow or inconsistent.
- 4Automation: a VFFS or flow-wrap line only when volumes justify rollstock and an operator.
Match the machine to the pack
- →Laminated pouches need a sealer with adjustable temperature and dwell time.
- →Induction sealers seal foil liners under bottle and jar caps.
- →Fillers must be chosen for your product's flow — free-flowing powder, sticky powder, paste or liquid.
- →Rollstock for automatic machines must match the machine's film width and sealing profile.
Before you buy
- →Test with your actual pouch or bottle — ask the supplier to run samples.
- →Check after-sales service, spares and installation near you.
- →Confirm power supply and floor space.
- →Budget for change parts if you run multiple pack sizes.
